چکیده

We examine the evolution of the sizes and number densities of disk galaxies using the high resolution images obtained by the Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey (GOODS) with the Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The multiwavelength images are used to classify galaxies based on their rest–frame B-band morphologies out to redshift z ∼ 1.25. In order to minimize the effect of selection biases, we confine our analysis to galaxies which occupy the region of magnitude-size plane where the survey is ∼ 90% complete at all redshifts. The observed size distribution is consistent with a log–normal distribution as seen for the disk galaxies in the local Universe and does not show any significant evolution over the redshift range 0.25≤ z ≤ 1.25. We find that the number densities of disk galaxies remains fairly constant over this redshift range, although a modest evolution by a factor of four may be possible within the 2σ uncertainties. Size Evolution of the Most Massive Galaxies at 1.7 < Z < 3 from Goods Nicmos Survey Imaging

We measure the sizes of 82 massive (M ≥ 10M⊙) galaxies at 1.7 ≤ z ≤ 3 utilizing deep HST NICMOS data taken in the GOODS North and South fields. Our sample is almost an order of magnitude larger than previous studies at these redshifts, providing the first statistical study of massive galaxy sizes at z > 2, confirming the extreme compactness of these galaxies. We split our sample into disk-like ...

DASTWAR: a tool for completeness estimation in magnitude-size plane

Today, great observatories around the world, devote a substantial amount of observing time to sky surveys. The resulted images are inputs of source finder modules. These modules search for the target objects and provide us with source catalogues. We sought to quantify the ability of detection tools in recovering faint galaxies regularly encountered in deep surveys. Our approach was based on com...

Extremely Compact Massive Galaxies at 1.7 < Z < 3

We measure and analyse the sizes of 82 massive (M ≥ 10M⊙) galaxies at 1.7 ≤ z ≤ 3 utilizing deep HST NICMOS data taken in the GOODS North and South fields. Our sample provides the first statistical study of massive galaxy sizes at z > 2. We split our sample into disk–like (Sérsic index n ≤ 2) and spheroid– like (Sérsic index n > 2) galaxies, and find that at a given stellar mass, disk–like gala...

Dose distribution evaluation of various dose calculation algorithms in inhomogeneous media

Background: Dose calculation algorithms play a very important role in predicting the explicit dose distribution. We evaluated the percent depth dose (PDD), lateral depth dose profile, and surface dose volume histogram in inhomogeneous media using calculation algorithms and inhomogeneity correction methods. Materials and Methods: The homogeneous and inhomogeneous virtual slab phantoms used in th...

Galaxy Size Evolution at High Redshift and Surface Brightness Selection Effects: Constraints from the Hubble Ultra Deep Field

We use the exceptional depth of the Ultra Deep Field (UDF) and UDFParallel ACS fields to study the sizes of high redshift (z ∼ 2 − 6) galaxies and address long-standing questions about possible biases in the cosmic star formation rate due to surface brightness dimming. Contrasting B, V , and i-dropout samples culled from the deeper data with those obtained from the shallower GOODS fields, we de...
